ESHA STARTALK HINDI SUMMER CAMP 2019

The program aims to enroll 75-80 heritage and non-heritage students ascending to grades 3 to 8 (ages 8-14) in Novice and Intermediate levels of proficiency in Hindi. The program theme is ‘Soorya Namaskar’ and integrates culture and STEM as a context for learning the language for everyday use. The three week program is spread over 105 instructional hours distributed between language instruction and theme specific activities like yoga, music, skype sessions with students in India, field trip, community supported mela/bazaar, media lab, and Problem Based Learning to practice, reuse, apply and transfer language in all communication modes and settings. The program is held using 12 classrooms in a spacious, air-conditioned, public school that provides an excellent learning environment. Our goal is to improve the communication and literacy skills for every student by one to two sub-levels and to enable them to apply the language in real life scenarios with student-centered learning activities using differentiated strategies and assessment tasks for different levels of language skills that support multiple learning styles to make the program enjoyable and beneficial to all students.
