    Summary

    “Junior Chef: Hansik Tour” is Korean language program for 15 novices and 15 intermediates in grade 3-5. During this program, students will enjoy differentiated instruction under thematic unit focusing on Korean food, Hansik, for 110 hours of instruction over a five-week period. Through this program, students advance their Korean language skills in 3 different modes while gaining knowledge about Korean food through project-based learning to create their own Korean dish collaboratively with their peers. Aligned to the World-Readiness Standards, instruction will be offered Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., July 9, 2018 to August 9, 2018 at 58-20 Utopia Pkwy, Fresh Meadows, NY 11365 (Francis Lewis High School, 3FL).     Summary

    The 2018 GLP STARTALK combination program will last 10 days, and provide participants 60 contact hours; it will include 24 total participants, four student program leaders and 20 new participants. Participants will focus on the TELL Domain areas of ‘Planning,’ the ‘Learning Experience,’ and ‘Professionalism.’ Participants will have the opportunity to participate in full group and small group lectures and sessions, as well the chance to peer-teach and micro-teach at the GLP summer student Chinese program, which will be run in collaboration with the Graham Windham summer camp. All participants will earn Continuing Teaching and Learning Education (CTLE) Credits.

    Summary

    "K-talk! Seoul to Soul" is a dynamic STARTALK Korean Language Summer Program designed to immerse students in the rich culture and language of Korea through 21st century teaching and learning. Through a virtual exploration using Google, students will engage in a living history of Seoul, re-enacting the past and examining its influence on the present. Real-world experiences in Korean arts and crafts, music, dance, Tae Kwon Do, and food preparation and tasting will bring culture, content, and language to life. E-portfolios, student-created blogs, and interactive exhibitions will highlight students' success. To promote a deep and continuing appreciation for the Korean culture, post-program activities include the 2019 Lunar New Year Celebration at the Korea Society of NYC, the 2018 NYC Korean Parade, as well as two complimentary tickets to the 2019 International Festival at Francis Lewis High School. To support on-going Korean language development, free Rosetta Stone accounts (one per household) will be offered to students' families for the 2018-19 academic year. Aligned to the World-Readiness Standards, the five-week intensive program will be offered Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., July 9, 2018 to August 10, 2018. Space is limited to 30 novice (beginner) participants. Apply by May 31, 2018.

    Summary

    The STARTALK Korean Language Program at Mercy College, “STARTALK: A Student Life in Seoul,” will advance students’ Korean language competency to novice-mid or novice-high level, depending on their level at program entrance. We will recruit and select 30 students in grades 6-8 with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, including students returning from the previous year’s program. Through both virtual and face-to-face teaching and learning experiences, the students will explore Korean family life, school life, and cultural activities aligned to the World Readiness Standards. The students will have opportunities to create digital stories to present their learning outcomes in the STARTALK program. The program will be offered Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 30 to August 17, 2018, for a total of 90 hours of instructional time.
