Program Implementation Resources
Updated for 2021, the STARTALK program implementation resources provide guidance and support to STARTALK grant recipients as they implement their programs, collect evidence of learning, and reflect on program results.
Teacher Longitudinal Report (2007-2019)
In 2020, 1,100 alumni of STARTALK teacher programs responded to the longitudinal survey described in this report. Respondents to this survey represent every year of STARTALK programming and every language that has been offered by STARTALK since its beginning in 2007. The vast majority of respondents report that STARTALK teacher programs have had a positive impact on their professional development and that adopting the STARTALK principles has improved their language teaching. The report summarizes these findings in a brief Executive Summary, followed by full reporting of the survey results.
Student Longitudinal Report (2007-2019)
In 2020, nearly 3,000 alumni and parents responded to our survey on STARTALK's long-term impact on student participants. Alumni responding to this survey represent every year of STARTALK programming and every language that has been offered by STARTALK since its beginning in 2007. The vast majority of alumni report that STARTALK impacted their career and education paths, as well as their cultural worldview. This report describes those findings in detail.
STARTALK’s mission is to increase the number of U.S. citizens learning, speaking, and teaching critical need foreign languages. STARTALK offers students (K–16) and teachers of these languages creative and engaging summer experiences that strive to exemplify best practices in language education and in language teacher development.
