STARTALK's Mission

STARTALK’s mission is to increase the number of U.S. citizens learning, speaking, and teaching critical need foreign languages. STARTALK offers students (K–16) and teachers of these languages creative and engaging summer experiences that strive to exemplify best practices in language education and in language teacher development.

Matt Coss: STARTALK Success Story

Watch Matt Coss share his STARTALK story at the 2017 STARTALK Fall Conference. Matt first participated in a STARTALK program as a student at age 13 and has been involved at some level of STARTALK every year since then—as a student, a teacher’s assistant, a culture class teacher, a lead teacher, curriculum consultant and, more recently, as a member of the STARTALK Central team at the National Foreign Language Center.
